30th March 2019 | Coffs Harbour Golf Club

Can you tell me a bit more about the workshop?

This exciting one day workshop is aimed at equipping you with a range of tools and techniques to help you create the most spectacular performance on exam day.

No boring sit-down lectures here! This workshop is designed to be interactive and practical. From the physical warm-ups and vocal exercise to performing one of your pieces in front of an audience, the workshop allows you to explore, experiment and enhance your HSC pieces.

And don't worry about information overload on the day - you will receive a range of helpful handouts and goodies to take with you at the end of the day to keep motivated and focused at home.

What will we be doing?

The day will be divided into two sessions. The morning workshop session (9:30am-12:30pm) will focus on topics such as how the voice functions and how to get it working more effectively, text/song interpretation, presentation skills, microphone techniques, performance anxiety and vocal health. The afternoon masterclass session (1:00pm-3:30pm) will focus on workshopping one prepared HSC piece from each of the participants.

Who will be presenting?

The workshop will be presented by Kelly Pecina. You can read my bio here

I already have private singing lessons, so why should I come?

That's a fair question! Both you and your private singing teacher have been working hard to select and prepare the program for your HSC performance - and this is wonderful! By no means do I replace the week-in and week-out hard work that you and your teacher put into the lessons. Instead, my role is to supplement and compliment this hard work by offering you an objective, expert perspective and way of approaching your pieces that maybe you haven't considered before...

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change"

Who can come?

The workshop is open to all Year 11 and 12 Music 1, 2 and extension HSC singing students. The venue can only accommodate 15 people, so places are limited.

What do I need to bring?

Prior to the workshop you will need to supply me with:

  • the title and composer of your piece for the masterclass

  • a PDF copy of the sheet music

  • a mp3 file of the accompaniment of the piece (preferably exactly what you will be using in your performance). As there will be no accompanist on the day, this is what you will be using for the masterclass session.

On the day:

  • a notebook and pen

  • comfortable clothes

  • your lunch if you choose not to purchase it at the Golf Club Cafe. Morning tea and water will be provided.

Sounds great...but how much is it??

The full day workshop will cost $100. This includes all handouts and materials, as well as morning tea. The best part is...the workshop is FREE with the Creative Kids Voucher!! Creative Kids is a NSW Government initiative assisting school students up to the age of 18 to attend creative workshops such as this one! You can find out more information and apply for the voucher here
